All Black Cory Jane

We were lucky to photograph Cory Jane and his family late last year for the New Zealand Woman’s Day magazine. Cory was great to photograph, accommodating and good looking, which made for a fun shoot. You can see the blog from that shoot here. He also very generously donated to Special Olympics, a charity I am involved with, a 2010 All Blacks training jersey, which we auctioned off at this years charity quiz night. What a great guy.

All Black Piri Weepu

Late last year the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly ran a story on Piri Weepu and his mum and we were lucky to be the photographers for the story. I met up with Piri and his mum at Wellington’s boutique hotel Ohtel where I spent an hour with the bubbly and vivacious pair. What an amazing job Piri has done with the All Blacks over the last six weeks of Rugby World Cup. We are very proud of the All Blacks bringing the World Cup home. Go the AB’s!!!

Assistance Dogs Photo Shoot – June 2011

Last month I agreed to do a pro bono photo shoot for Assistance Dogs New Zealand. This sitting was not your average photo shoot, as the subjects were three autistic children and their very special helper dogs. I suppose I would describe these beautiful animals as guardian angels for autistic children, providing a friend/companion who is loving, loyal, obedient and who loves them unconditionally, but also provides the parents with a second pair of hands and eyes.

I have and continue to photograph autistic children at several of Wellingtons Kindergarten and childcare centres and use my favoured approach to the photography of these unique children (patience, patience, patience). Thankfully we are now operating from a large natural light studio, which provides a lighting and stand free environment for all of the younger children to run around in, obstacle free, and believe me we used every inch of our studio space for this shoot. It was a great environment to see the dogs actually working, as they provided an anchor to where we needed the children to stand and the children just did what they did naturally, exploring the environment, cuddling, holding the dogs and following them around wherever we needed them to be.

All these smiles were genuine and we got some great images for Assistance Dogs NZ, all because of these wonderful dogs and their trainer Julie Hancox. – - – http://www.assistancedogstrust.org.nz

World Famous in Wellington

Ok, maybe not famous, but we have reached the pages of The Wellington Guide magazine. The latest magazine features a three page spread about our “new face, new place, new space” launch and celebrates our move to Taranaki Street, our new daylight studio and the new addition of Hayley as our Studio Manager. So if you’re browsing the supermarket magazine stand or if you are in a cafe and see a copy is nearby, pick it up and read all about us on page 70.

Thoughts on our new studio at Outwide House

Well it has been our first week in the new studio and I cannot say how much of a difference it has made to my whole approach to my portraiture. Since Studio Bluefish closed I have been shooting, it seems, with one hand was tied behind my back. Don’t get me wrong, we really got some amazing portraits at our old location, but it has been difficult at times to get the natural and playful look to my images with a roll of paper hanging off the wall and less than three meters for the children to run on before being too close to the lens to focus. I was really tired of just “making do”

The new Outwide House location has brought excitement for where we are and what we do, re-kindled the creative fires and given Penny and I focus and determination to be one of Wellingtons finest portrait and wedding photography studios.

Pop in for for a visit and join in with our excitement. You are all welcome! Also watch this space for details on our grand opening weekend and some more exiting news coming very soon from Inspire Photography.

Our New Studio – Part 2

Well, I have just been away for a week and popped in to the studio space to check on its progress. Wow is all I could say. Things are really taking shape there now and you can get more of a feel for the space because of the walls giving us the shape/outline of what we imagined. We are getting very excited.

Our New Studio – Part I

We are pleased to announce we have signed up for a new studio space. After three years of blood, sweat and tears at our old space we are extremely excited about our move. Our new space on Taranaki Street is bigger, brighter and better than our old Fifeshire location. Plus we have the fun task of fitting it out exactly how we want. Over the next few weeks we will be posting images of our studio as it takes shape. We hope to be operational in our new space by mid-December, will this be a reality??? In the meantime we are in a temporary location but fully operational. Please follow our progress.
